Cultural Preservation of Indigenous Wisdom in Peru

For Fiscal Years 2024-2025

Due to the decreasing viability of traditional indigenous livelihoods and the need for indigenous youth to move to urban centers to make a living, most of the traditional healing modalities within indigenous communities are practiced by elders. Many of these elders hold extensive knowledge that is specific to their lineage and their region, which has been transmitted orally for generations. As these elders age, it is essential to facilitate the transmission of these knowledge traditions to the next generation of indigenous youth to ensure generational continuity of their cultural traditions and healing modalities.

Through the following projects, The Lab for Sacred Living will work with indigenous healers to facilitate the preservation of their knowledge, and the continued practice of their healing modalities within their communities.

Project #1 Form Cooperative Of Women Healers in Peru

As our Peruvian arm for the Lab for Sacred Living, we will form a Cooperative of women healers with the purpose of amplifying their voices, supporting their work and communities and appointing them as faculty for our school for cultural preservation. Effective January 1st, 2024.

Project #2 Cooperative Intake Journey

Our first project we will embark on in February 2024. This is a journey to specific Andean and Amazonian locations in Peru to visit the Wisdom Stewards of our Cooperative. We will consult and receive their guidance as we develop the curriculum for our school for cultural preservation. We will also chronicle their stories and aspects of their lifestyle they want to share.

Project #3 Digital Wisdom Library

To conserve oral wisdom traditions for generations to come, we are building a digital library to document the wisdom and teachings held by the indigenous women healers of our cooperative. Through the Intake Journey and continued efforts we intend to build a robust collection of multimedia content.

Project #4 Build Indigenous Cultural Preservation School

We will create a school taught by members of our Cooperative of Women Healers to local and indigenous youths of Peru. We will provide boarding facilities for up to 12 indigenous youth students for the duration of the courses they attend, along with full scholarships covering tuition, board and transportation costs.

Project #5 Develop and Launch Traditional Healing Certification Program

To promote recognition and visibility of the traditional healing modalities offered by members of our Cooperative, we will develop a unique certification program for participants of the courses at our school for cultural preservation.
